Board Member Spotlight: Dr. Pamela Henderson

Our next spotlight is Dr. Pamela Henderson! Pamela serves as the Vice President of Membership on the ArkAAN Executive Board. Pamela’s home institution is Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas where she serves as Associate Director of Advisement Services. Pamela holds Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Lyon College, a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice, a Master of Arts in Sociology, an Education Specialist degree in Community College Teaching, and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership, all from Arkansas State University.

Pamela works primarily with exploratory students and students in academic distress. Pamela shared that her favorite part of advising is “the difference I make in a students life by lending a listening ear, by guiding them toward a path of success, and by simply being someone else in their life they can count on for support.”

Outside of advising, Pamela enjoys photography, crafting, going to the lake, and traveling. She loves spending time with her husband and their two boys.

Pamela enjoys serving on the ArkAAN Board because she enjoys getting to meet and collaborate with academic professionals from across the state. Her advice for other advisors is to “connect with your students in whatever way possible. They get so many emails that sometimes the important advising emails get lost in the shuffle. Connect with them by calling them, text them through GroupMe apps, your university app. Build the relationship with your advisee so that they come back each semester even after they have declared just to let you know how they are doing.”
