During the Spring 2022 semester, we’re going to highlight some of our amazing ArkAAN Board Members!

First up is Shanna Turney. Shanna serves as the Treasurer with ArkAAN and as Associate Director of the UAFS ROAR First-Year Advising Center at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith. Shanna holds a M.S. in College Student Personnel and a B.S. in Agricultural Business. In the ROAR First-Year Advising Center, Shanna works primarily with first-time entering students. Her favorite part of advising is working with students who didn’t know college was even a possibility and watching them accomplish something wilder than their dreams.

Outside of work, Shanna is a self-proclaimed serious foodie with coffee being her primary love language. Additionally, she loves to read, listen to podcasts, and explore new things.

When asked what advice she had for other advisors in our state, she said to “…be your best self and think outside of the box. Students don’t just need cheerleaders, they need an advocate who can cheer when things are great and listen when things are hard. We have the privilege of helping many students grow into the person they have been dreaming of, don’t take that for granted.”
