UAMS Presentation on Imposter Syndrome Wins 2024 Best of State Award

“What if I fail? Helping Students Understand and Overcome Imposter Syndrome” presented by Dr. Dechantria “Dee Dee” Wallace was named “Best of State” during the Arkansas Academic Advising Network (ArkAAN) Spring 2024 Drive-In conference held April 26th in Conway, Arkansas.

The interactive presentation explained what Imposter Syndrome is and how common it is among college students today. The presentation showed how Imposter Syndrome impacts students personally. Research and trends about Imposter Syndrome were shared, and there was brainstorming session about recognizing the signs and helping students overcoming Imposter Syndrome.

“I chose to present on imposter syndrome because I experienced it firsthand as a doctoral student,” says Wallace. “I was shocked to learn that I was not alone and that many individuals struggle with feelings of imposterism. I begin to think about my students, how this may affect their educational journey, and what faculty and staff can do to help them overcome it. I am excited that my peers found the information valuable and will share what was learned at their institutions to help support student success.”

Wallace added, “I am honored to be chosen as the 2024 Best of State award winner. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the recognition and support you have provided me through this award. I had no idea the impact my presentation would have on so many. It means the world to me, and I will do my best to embody the ideals that this award represents.”
